Well look what we have here. The mastermind of this in-house shoot was photographer Jai Saint. Our newest model, Landri, was really blazing in front of the camera and also brought a relaxed, sexy feel to the table. He had some terrific film so it was very difficult to choose just eight pics for his spanking new portfolio. Landri loves to ride motorcycles and is most definitely a sight to see. Check out these hot, lucky guys. UMI models Tuquan S., Jose C., and Carlos P. participated in the Orlando Premiere Hair Show this past weekend and representing Mizani Hair Care. Mizani specializes in shampooing, conditioning, styling, and finishing ethnic hair so these three fit the description perfectly. The guys had a lot of fun showcasing the products and learned a few tricks while putting some experience under their belt.

Amanda flipped the glamour switch in this highly fashionable dress. The photograph entails "Gladiator Chic" in white and gold attire with the huge columns in the background to add some flare to the shoot. This photoshoot also took place at one of our new shoot locations. The background included these big, beautiful trees on a pleasantly windy afternoon and had these calming/soothing effects as well. The talented Efrain turned this shoot out and stepped outside the box with some fresh, new wardrobe ideas. The photo has a very relaxing feel to it and exudes stylish perfection. Model: The Verb vs. The Noun

We all know that this industry can be brutal and unforgiving. On the other hand it is also where beauty and art meet, mingle and create the world's most fantastic pieces.

With that being said, there is a big difference between being able to Model and being a Model. A model by definition, according to The American Heritage Dictionary is: " One that serves as the subject for an artist, especially a person employed to pose for a painter, sculptor, or photographer." Depending on the client, the project, and the expected outcome, any person or thing can be a model. And lets be honest, being a model and looking like a model most of the times can be synonomous. Throwing on a retro-fit tee, some faded jeans and jump in front of the camera...SNAP! You're a model!

Now the real question Mr./Ms. Model, is do you know how to model? Are you in tune with your body; the angles that are most flattering, where and how to find your light, how to tell a story with your pose? Do you know how to accentuate your garments? Of course as Tyra says: can you smile with your eyes...Smize? If your answers to these questions is yes, then you are familiar with the "verb' form of the word model. Not only do you have the looks, but you know how to work them either in front of the camera or on the runway.

If you are ok with just only being a model, the more power to you however, if you're looking to take your career to the next level, its high time to learn how to model. You are the master of your own destiny. Life is your runway. Make it happen!

There is a lot more involved in Modeling than just standing in front of a camera looking pretty...

I figured i would touch on a few aspects that some of us can integrate and think about while working on our modeling future.

1) Make sure you are with a legit modeling agency. One that is actually shooting, working with clients, and actually has an active Talent License and readily makes this information available to you. [Urban Models Inc. Talent License number is TA953] Any agency that is booking talent and taking a percentage without a license is breaking the law.

2) Research how to pose, faces, clothing. All of this can be found online for free.

3) Have a list of items for your working wardrobe (audition wardrobe). You never know what you made need for an audition and you should have this with you. You only have one chance to make that first impression.

4) Portfolio. You can put together a portfolio of diverse 8 x 10's in a nice book for under 40 dollars. This should contain several different looks and styles.

5) Self Promotion. You are the best promoter of yourself. Your agent can set up gatherings, auditions, etc... but YOU have to show up for them, on time and ready to go.

6) Your words and actions represent YOU and your agencies reputation. Character and Integrity should be number one.

We here at Urban Models Inc are still riding the zephyr from our showcase this past weekend. As the pictures and videos roll in from the various photographers who attended we are continuously proud of all of our models and the entire production team. Of course, the biting has begun. No less than 24 hours after the showcase ended, we have already begun to hear the rumblings in the rafters of people trying to do what we just did. Just, as in past tense. Between you and I, we've already begun to plan the next showcase and rest assured it will be BIGGER and BETTER. Its hard to out-do yourself, but its fun to sit and watch people try to catch up. So to all the followers, imitation is the highest form of flattery and we appreciate it. Put your shoes on because you're gonna be running for a long time!

Urban Models Inc. Industry Night Vol. 1

Our first Industry Night was a success. We featured 7 of the hottest up and coming designers out of Orlando in an hour long runway show full of beat thumpin, runway rippin' fabulousness. In addition to the runway show, the designers were also able to showcase their clothes on models posed as statues in our "museum". Our event staff, 20 strong and 35 models helped to make this show a success. Urban Models Inc. is definitely proud to bring the Orlando Fashion Industry back to its traditional roots but it's not over yet. The revolution has only just begun. As the show ended the number one question everyone had is..."Can I reserve tickets for the next show now?"

An Urban Model specifically, must be able to transcend across brands and essentially, lifestyles. Although it may sound pretty simple in theory, not all models can pull this off. The easiest way we always explain it is that, as an Urban Model we should be able to put you in an Baby Phat or Fox outfit as well as Dolce And Gabbana and you should be able to rock them both. Believe me, not everyone can rock an Urban Brand the way the designers need it to be.
