We all know that this industry can be brutal and unforgiving. On the other hand it is also where beauty and art meet, mingle and create the world's most fantastic pieces.
With that being said, there is a big difference between being able to Model and being a Model. A model by definition, according to The American Heritage Dictionary is: " One that serves as the subject for an artist, especially a person employed to pose for a painter, sculptor, or photographer." Depending on the client, the project, and the expected outcome, any person or thing can be a model. And lets be honest, being a model and looking like a model most of the times can be synonomous. Throwing on a retro-fit tee, some faded jeans and jump in front of the camera...SNAP! You're a model!
Now the real question Mr./Ms. Model, is do you know how to model? Are you in tune with your body; the angles that are most flattering, where and how to find your light, how to tell a story with your pose? Do you know how to accentuate your garments? Of course as Tyra says: can you smile with your eyes...Smize? If your answers to these questions is yes, then you are familiar with the "verb' form of the word model. Not only do you have the looks, but you know how to work them either in front of the camera or on the runway.
If you are ok with just only being a model, the more power to you however, if you're looking to take your career to the next level, its high time to learn how to model. You are the master of your own destiny. Life is your runway. Make it happen!
